Workshops

Though in a more stylistic than technical way, Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane have also combined genres to come up with something their own...[They] have done the most thoroughly and creative job of completely transforming ballet--as well as jazz, gymnastics, social dance, sports, folk dance and vernacular gesture--into their own pastiched style...Jones and Zane are in complete control of their variegated material.
-Ann Daly, excerpt ("Body Against Body," Elizabeth Zimmer)

Led by Associate Artistic Director, Janet Wong, the Company's Workshops offer participating dance artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Jones/Zane choreographic and investigative approach through task-oriented exercise, improvisation, and composition with the full Company. In addition, dance artists may learn excerpts of select repertory and explore the process that was involved in the creation of a specific work.

Testimonials

"Taking this workshop was an eye opener to me in many ways, many of which were personal. For me it was an opportunity to reacquaint myself with my technique, to indulge in a movement vocabulary of two respected individuals much different than that which I perform, and to experience what working with Bill T. was like. I feel there is limitless information to be learned from both Bill and Janet. I look forward to more opportunities to work and learn from either."

"At [the workshop], some of the most memorable moments were when Bill shared his thoughts and way of working with us. One of the best things about the BTJ workshop was dancing with the BTJ dancers. Moving through class with them and sharing their energy was extremely informative."

"Bill T. Jones is full of surprises. Who'd imagine he'd turn Jane Bowles's eccentrically poetic 1945 puppet play, A Quarreling Pair, into a parable in the form of a variety show....
