Master Classes 2008/2009 Season

Janet Wong, whom I met in 1989 when she was a dancer at the Berlin Opera Ballet, has proven to be the lynchpin joining my personal style of movement and an ever changing community of dancers. Janet, with a solid command of the classical technique also has the curiosity and intellect of the best of contemporary dance-makers. She observes my personal style and is able to reconcile that with the torque, loose limbed flowing style of movement that I saw in Trisha Brown. Janet was invited in first as rehearsal director and teacher to help me create the dancers we needed and the style that would unite us. She has now become Associate Artistic Director.
-Bill T. Jones

Led by Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong and Company dancers, the Master Class is designed to provide a solid technical base, a deep sense of alignment, and the tools to dance, think, feel, and respond. All directions of the body are accessed through floor work, standing floor sequences, movement phrases, and across the floor sequences.

Testimonials

Hi David,

Today was great! The students were really engaged and focused on the ideas Stuart and Donald were touching upon. This was evident in their work and progress throughout class. These same students attended a workshop last week with Ron K Brown so, after today, they really got a sense of the versatility a dancer can possess and the various styles that are out there. Donald and Stuart are such intelligent, well-spoken individuals and it's amazing to hear them speak about their craft and their lives.

Thank you so much for another great experience. Please let me know if there is a chance to schedule something in the early fall/winter for next year. We're trying to fill up that portion of the calendar first. If the fall is out, I'm happy to take any time where the company is available.

Truly,

◊ Roots, Renaissance, Revolution!
June 19, 2009

I told Anne that while I am flattered to be seen as a "revolutionary" it would be more accurate and less pompous if I said simply that I am a survivor working with every tool I have to make work, maintain an organization (will we always be a dance company?) and stay in touch with that impulse that lead me to this life in the first place.
